MY JOURNEY: The Story of James Edward Porras

This is the story of James Edward Porras, a Third-generation Mexican immigrant who despite several serious challenges made the most of the American dream. James was born with dyslexia and as such was never able to read and comprehend written material beyond a third-grade level. Determined to gain a higher education despite his challenges, he eventually graduated from San Jacinto Junior College in Pasadena, Texas, and from Utah State University in Logan, Utah.Having an innate ability to create and run a successful business, he made millions. Who would have known that a somewhat handicapped, Baptist, Hispanic youth in an all-white, predominately LDS high school would beat all the odds? He served his country with the U.S. Army in Vietnam during the late sixties. Returning home safely, he married his high school sweetheart, Alecia Niederhauser, from a staunch LDS family, and raised five successful children. He parlayed his shaky family business in Houston into a progressive, successful corporation and became a respected member of the LDS faith where he held many prominent leadership positions. Read more
